  1. Was really impressed with this commentary I had no idea you were a doctor until I looked at the end lol. Nonetheless great work.

  2. Man, such insignificant force it seems like. Maybe it’s harder than it looked. Or maybe like the doctor said, there was already some type of injury or stress weakening the bone, and that tackle was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.

  3. I am sure the turf has to do with it as well, since football is usually played on real grass and this is a hybrid out of artificial and real it seems like it acts more like artificial where players gets stuck in it with their studs of their boots, we got a couple more injuries related to it already too. initially the foot isn't able to move as it stays stuck in the turf and the hooking kick of the other player does inject a torsional component because of it. I am pretty certain on real grass this doesn't happen cause his foot wouldn't be stuck in the grass and the force could escape easier as the turf would be able to give.

  4. Thank you for explaining everything in laymen’s terms. I really appreciate it. Very professional too. Thank you!

  5. The surgery is the same as I did. I would like to ask the doctor if the iron we need to remove the iron wedges from the bone after the bone is welded?

  6. It's not strange. It's called leverage, simple physics. Just search for 'larsson's leg' to find an older but almost identical incident where the fracture is captured clearly.

  7. I think your first statement on leg breaks was correct.
"Often times when somebody has a broken leg, there's a very significant external force that is falling on the leg from the outside that pushes the leg, the ankle inward. It's almost like a high ankle sprain mechanism."

i think you paused it perfectly at the right time at 0:27 in this video.
You can see Ismael Kone's left foot is caught underneath Assim Madibo's right shin as Madibo comes in for the challenge.

Kone is planting his right foot and making himself vertically sturdy to turn the ball to the left, but in Madibo's challenge his right shin comes down on the back of Kone's lower left calf and with Kone's foot now trapped against the ground… Kones leg snaps. He doesn't realize until he puts his left foot down during his pass.

I truthfully think this was an unfortunate challenge and ASSim Madibo didnt deserve a red card… no matter how much i wanted qatar to lose lol.

  8. And he was walking somewhat normally, with no crutches, during celebrations after Canada's RO32 game against South Africa (on the 28th)

  9. All these folks crying about the red cards for Balogun need to realize that accident or no accident you simply cannot step on a players ankle, it’s super dangerous.

  10. I actually think the injury happened earlier than the doctor thinks: Kone’s boot was caught in the grass when the Qatari player made contact with Kone’s calf. So you have a foot that can’t slide forward and an external force against the lower leg. This is a pretty classic mechanism of injury for a sprained ankle, and this same mechanism can also break the ankle. Usually, the tibia breaks lower down, and we would call that an ankle fracture, but this seems to be a mid-shaft fracture (halfway between the ankle and knee) so we call it a broken leg.

  11. there is a nasty one from dutch vollybal from like 25yr ago… they both jumped and when they came down one of them came on the lower leg and with the full body weight it snapped right there on the court 🙁
