I am starting to think that Portugal will become a turning point for Croatian football in general. We got a peek behind the curtains, and we saw that it's all fake and it's all one giant performance. It's like a Truman Show moment for Croatian football.
You can say people will forget, but I have a hunch that this cynicism towards football will persist in collective memory. I don't see us getting excited about the Euros or World Cup as we did before. Excitement will be there, people will come together and watch games, but it will not be taken as seriously as before, as this life and death thing, in which grown men are on the verge of losing their minds. This will eventually seep into the player quality we produce.
It makes me incredibly sad, because I want my kids to experience the same joy I did. But maybe it is for the better. Maybe it doesn't make sense to spend this much national energy on something so trivial as kicking the ball around.

I would love for Dalic stay on but it does not look to be the case. I’d be happy with Bilic taking over.
One other thing for the HNS to consider would be a high profile foreign coach with a track record of results (club or country). We have a very appealing team to potential candidates.
However, I said the same thing when Cacic was looking bad in 2017 and was not happy with the appointment of Dalic because he was unknown at the time. Of course, he ended up being brilliant.

This WC is so corrupt it’s not even enjoyable to watch. What happened to Croatia is going to hurt for awhile. Croatia was on fire second half and looked like they were going to win. I’ve been a Croatian football fan since the beginning and these BS calls are to much. Even before the game started I had a feeling we were going to get robbed. I did watch the Panama vs Croatia game live and that for me was amazing. The team moving forward looks promising and hopefully the Nations League show positive momentum. We will all have to move forward from all the BS. Whoever takes over should know now that the referee is always against us and needs to just keep putting balls into the net. We saw what happened. But we should have finished the game sooner. Amateur mistakes. This has been an ongoing issue under Dalic with the cheap goals we concede, but as long as he his coach we will have achievements because of the authority he commands via patriotism and trust.
Bilic is the front runner, but while he knew how to coach a young team there was always a nervousness with him, results were not great, but we played more attractive football. For me, he is too much of a philosopher. Great commentator though. If he his hired I hope he will learn from his mistakes. Our upcoming team is not like the 2008 Bilic version- better I hope, but we will see.
A tough loss similar to this in 2016 against Portugal inspired the 2018 success. Here's hoping 2026 gets us a 2028 Euro medal 🙏

FIFA is corrupt & facilitates bias with increasingly complex rules & tech. It's gotten to the point where sensor on significant margin of error at small scale override what is visually clear. They are basically saying: believe us & not your eyes.
It is what it is & won't change. Some teams & personas will be favored. Croatia is a small country. Good as Modric is, he isn't as marketable as Messi & Ronaldo.
We have to be better to overcome these things. Of course we got robbed on the Gvardiol equalizer. But TBH, we also let in 2 poor goals by losing concentration. We had starters that aren't NT material: notably Vlasic, Pongracic, & Budimir. Like it or not, Modric shouldn't be the nucleus of our team at his age…Messi nor CR are for Argentina & Portugal. In fact, Belgium played much better without KDB.
Croatia has a great future with so many good young & prime players. Gvardiol, Vuskovic, the Sucic's, Baturina, Stanisic. Lots of younger kids in the pipeline. We will see if we have any forwards, where we lack quality.
It seems like Bilic will be our next coach. I am not sure he is the right man. I hope he's gotten better over the years. But I do know we need a smooth transition with the younger generation. I hope the HNS has a plan & is professional about it, like France, Spain, & England are.

After watching the robbery happen in Toronto, I immediately felt helpless, deflated and defeated inside (obviously like everyone else) but then I realized unfortunately sometimes these things need to happen! In order to expose the massive FIFA corruption to the entire world and for change to occur these things need to happen. Croatia was just next in line to receive it. It could also have been any other small country that FIFA didn’t want to advance. I am actually very hopeful that even more corruption continues to happen and unfolds in real time in front of our eyes as the remaining games play out. I’m not watching for the love of the game anymore, I am watching to discover the latest in new corruption techniques being used to ensure the money makers continue to win! I know it’s twisted but here we are in 2026 haha And look President Trump recently nullified a red card. Who knew that exemption was permitted and allowed?! The ironic thing is both the Portugal and USA teams unavoidably got what was coming to them today and were both eliminated, kind of like a little pay back for their indirect shenanigans. An open area nestled in the Velebit mountain range, a place with huge potential. I absolutely loved it!
Frankly speaking I think Por vs Cro , Mor vs Ned, Bra vs Jap should have been R16 fixutres not R32, FIFA pre plannedly managed this R32 fixtures to favour host nations and they got some what easy opponents like south africa and bosnia in R32 and we can see how usa, canada badly lost when they faced quality opponents in R16
both those teams does not deserve to qualify for R16, even Egypt I think got lucky escape to R16 as they faced lower ranked australia and won narrowly tomorrow Argentina may trash them. Mexico also was lucky with home fans advantage they were quite average they could not even manage a equalizer in 40 minutes when england were down to 10 , with all favourable conditions to mexico

I hate to say this, but truth is truth so here it goes: our Croatian soccer team is in the same position women are in the corporate office (the boy's club). They have to be twice as good to get to the top because the powers that be simply can't allow a little Croatia to be in the finals for the 3rd time. They get grabbed and no penalty, but if they grab (and I do not in principle condone the "well everybody does it" position) they get called out for being too aggressive! Do you see the parallel? I know what I'm talking about and I not only see it – I FEEL it. It's OK boys! Don't let that discourage you. If you have to be twice as good, then be twice as good because you can. The Croatian fans are not going anywhere. Let's kick ass in 4 years and let's be a little more careful with the aggressivness because we know VAR is prejudiced. People who are upset about only the US red card scandal have been watching soccer with beer goggles for years. It has been obvious throughout my 59 years (also in other sports).
I get that Croatia is a small country. I've gotten negative feedback about defending that goal. It's OK. You don't have to like Croatia but to say that our goal wasn't deserved is sad. We all saw it and people who know the game know that it was real. The technology should have confirmed what everyone saw. instead, the tech was used as a weapon.

This couldn't have come at a better time, same thing happened with Egypt today.. the formula was almost exact to the Croatia game as far as soft calls to the other side, non calls, and called back goals go. Really humiliating when a team scores a goal and you have to wait to celebrate because of VAR.
