Straight talking here. Russ is great when he's great but it takes a complete football team to win games consistently. Russ has been catered to and he's paid a fortune. After paying Russ, there's a lot less to go around. Russ should have kept his mouth shut in public and worked things out behind closed doors. He's his own biggest problem. Most every play breaks down and Russ scrambles, that's how it goes. Every defense has figured out how the Seahawks operate now. More protection could help to some degree but new and creative play calling is what will keep opposing defenses guessing. Seahawks were on that immediately. Russ needs to trust his coaches a little more. They made Russ who he is.
Seattle… a city that deserves nothing reputable in a Sports Franchise, from Football to Baseball to Hockey (Hockey?) and we deserve the crap we see now. Seattle Sports – a symptom of what is horribly wrong with Seattle. And yes, it is Corporate and falls through Monetized Stadiums and no tradition. Tradition? Baseball had One Year here. Sonics? Kraken? Who?? Seahawks… muddled and mired in the crapshoot that is Corporate Greed over Quality Product.

First of all, Mr. Collingsworth, I have always enjoyed your game coverage, and especially of Russ over the years. And Sherm, we sure miss you out their on the R/H side shutting it down. But, I still detect some smarm towards Russ in you statements. Not as visceral as in the past, though. Thank goodness, especially if you end up on the team with him again. Whether you admit it or not, Russ is one of the greatest QB's of his era. Now with all of that said, the comments on this posting are some of the most reasonable that I have heard of this situation now.
For those who want the Hawks to resign Sherman, the Hawks can't sign him for exactly the same reason he mentioned here. Wilson is taking all the money, and there's no cap room to pay anyone else. If he's traded, he will eventually exhaust the new team's cap. Sure they might win for a year or two, but it's not sustainable over the long haul.
How did Brady win all of those years in New England? It was partly because of his genius of taking less money than he could have so that the team could afford a great supporting cast. In fact, he gave up, perhaps $100 million over the course of the New England dynasty in order to keep his team competitive.
When the Hawks won the super bowl, Wilson attributed it to God favoring him. Yet, Christian's believe "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Now if you substitute "super bowl" for "kingdom of God," and you start to see how Wilson is completely destroying his team with his greed. God no longer favors him to win super bowls because he's a greedy Satan worshipping a-hole, who's real god is money.
My feeling is, get rid greedy Russ, and move on. Sherman got it right when he indicated, when you pay one guy, and then he has a bad day, you lose. Well, let's go back and revisit that last playoff game. Wilson was off, and the Hawks had no chance. It reminds me of when he threw that interception in the second super bowl. For some reason, Seattle fans are afraid to blame this guy for terrible decisions he makes for this team.
Get rid of him. He's dragging down the rest of the team. Take Dalton and two other top players from the Bears along with three firsts, and two seconds. Bite the dead money, and use the draft capital to shore up the line and other positions. Let the Bears overpay for the greedy loser, and we can all get a laugh when they consistently miss the playoffs year-after-endless-year.

Listen to the hate from Sherm can’t really be objective when it comes to Russ. He’s insanely jealous of Russ and blames Russ for that Super Bowl loss, even though it was Pete Carroll’s, Darrell Bevell’s and Tyler Lockette’s fault that they lost.
Furthermore, Sherm is trying to take credit away from Russ and give it to himself and the LoB. He’s making it very difficult to like him!
He’s talking like the LoB was doing big things before Russ arrived. The Seahawks were garbage before Russ got there. That team didn’t do anything before Russ.
And Russ outplayed his rookie contract.
Russ gave the Seahawk huge discounts on both contract signings, to the tune of an estimated $60M between the two contracts! People are talking like the Seahawks did Russ a favor by paying him. He was supposed to get paid!
They didn’t do Russ any favors when they paid him; they did themselves a favor! Russ was going to get his money regardless, but no other QB could win for Pete like Russ does.
Pete Carroll knows it, which is why he will never let Russ get away. Russ could be 45 years old and on bad legs, and Pete would give him a shot at starting. Russ just dies things that no other QB (including Brady, Rodgers and Mahomes) cannot do.
You would have to watch him consistently to understand how uniquely talented he is.
All I know is…in SB55 you got a glimpse of what Mahomes would have looked like as the Seahawks QB. It wasn’t pretty, was it?
