  1. Suarez's transfer was also signed and sealed not long after the summer window closed, so it was not a typical transfer in terms of timing. I dont know but I wonder if they were trying to get it done in the summer but couldn't for some reason?

The Portuguese league makes sense for Prem teams to buy players from, good league, less outlay than some other leagues, but also they have a lot of South American players that make their first european move there (also Dutch League is similar in this way) which means they can end up getting citizenship which helps with work permits (at least it did, and I imagine even post brexit still helps at least a bit) but also you can get up and coming South American talent tested in a decent European league and for a competitive transfer fee
